Art Maddox

Henry Arthur "Art" Maddox, of Carl Junction, MO, died April 15, 2019 at his home. He was born on December 25, 1926 to Dick and Ione (Davey) Maddox.
Art retired from Empire District Electric Company as a foreman of the mechanics garage.
Clara Bell McCorkle became his wife on July 8, 1949. They lived together in Carl Junction until her death January 8, 2008.
Art's life was full with volunteering and civic duty. He was former mayor and councilman for Carl Junction and a deacon at First Baptist Church, where he and Clara taught the same Sunday school class for 33 years. He was sexton at Carl Junction cemetery, mowing and weed trimming until his late 80s. After Clara passed, Art would be the one to unlock the church Sunday mornings, adjust the thermostat, make the coffee, distribute the bulletins, be the door greeter and take up offering. His living room and kitchen walls are covered with hundreds of pictures of his family.
Art was a regular for lunch at the Carl Junction senior center, morning coffee at the American Legion where he was an honorary member, and afternoon coffee at Randy's Drive Inn, driving himself until the very day of hospitalization.
He is survived by his daughter, Betty and her husband, Bud Chitwood, of Longview, TX, their daughters, Toni McDowell and husband, Jeremy, Tara Lollar and husband, Jay, Chris Chitwood and wife, Dana, Connie Vu and husband, Lee, Carla Chitwood, along with their 10 children; a son, Steve Maddox and his wife, Marilynn, and their children, Brance, Renee, and Glenn, along with their six children; a sister, Deloris Hodge; a sister-in-law, Peggy Gaston; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will be present for visitation on Thursday, April 18, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, in Carl Junction. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m. at the church, with Pastor Jeremiah Nichols officiating. Burial will follow in Carl Junction Cemetery.
