Barbara's Story

Barbara Ann Burgess, age 80, resident of Webb City, Mo., passed away on November 13, 2017, at her home, following an illness.
Barbara was born on April 19, 1937, in Menfro, Mo., the daughter of the late Archie and Lillian (Immell) McKnight.
She married Wayne Burgess on May 5, 1957, in Waverly, Mo., and together they raised four children.
She and her husband owned and operated Burgess and Associates Insurance Agency for many years. Barbara was very active in her church, Glendale Christian Church, in Springfield.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Wayne Burgess, of Webb City; three daughters, Lori Marsh and her husband, Jeff, of Shawnee, Kan., Pam Rugeley and her husband, John, of Austin, Texas, Amy Whisman and her husband, Kevin, of Joplin, Mo.; a son, Todd Burgess, of Joplin; and Stephanie Burgess, of Webb City; two sisters: Marilyn Mays and her husband, Roy, of Pineville, La., Sandra Hathcote, of Baton Rouge, La.; a brother, James McKnight and his wife, Lauren, of DeRidder, La. Eleven grandchildren, Christopher Knight and his wife, Jennifer, Chelsea Evans and her husband, Kyle, Ashlee Ifland and her husband, Taylor, Amee Meredith and her husband, Blake, Tyler Burgess and his wife, Kortlynn, Mikaela Burgess, Tate Whisman, Jake Rugeley, Jess Rugeley, Toby Whisman and Adelyn Whisman. Seven great-grandchildren, Savannah Knight, Memphis Knight, Gage Knight, Carter Harrell, Josie Meredith, Nora Meredith and Graham Ifland.
Funeral services will be Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. at Christ Church of Oronogo Student Ministry Center North. Pastor Sid Allsbury and Pastor Troy Powell will officiate. Entombment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery at a later date.The visitation will precede the service from 4:30 p.m. to service time at the church.
The family request contributions be given to the Greater Missouri Chapter Alzheimers Association, in care of the mortuary.
