Bettie  Brewer

Bettie Louise Brewer, of Riverton, Kan., passed from this life on Thursday, March 7, 2019, at Quaker Hill Skilled Nursing, in Lowell, Kan. She was 87.
Bettie was born on November 20, 1931, to Vernon and Lola Mae (Cox) Hughey, in Shawnee, Okla. She had been in the Riverton area since 1955.
She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Missouri Southern State University. Bettie worked for Baxter Springs Hospital, Freeman Hospital and was Director of Nursing at Picher, Okla. Hospital.
Bettie was an avid quilter. She loved to read, do crossword puzzles and shopping at fabric stores and Walmart. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Bettie was united in marriage to Edward "Lee" Brewer on September 27, 1952, in Eureka Springs, Ark. He passed away August 15, 2002.
Bettie is preceded in death her parents; a grandson, David Brewer; and two brothers, Neal and Bobby Hughey.
Survivors include two sons, Ed Brewer Jr. and wife, Shirley, Charles Martin Brewer and wife, Darla Kay; one daughter, Verna Jean Beaty and husband, Mike; one brother, James Lynn Ball and wife, Wanda. She is also survived by five grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, March 13, at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel, in Baxter Springs, Kan. Honorary pallbearers were Ezra Ireland, Elijah Ireland, Aaron Cox, Chase Hunt, Braiden Ireland and Christian Ireland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are encouraged to Compassus Hospice.
