William E. "Bill" Allen, age 86, Carl Junction, MO, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2019, at his home
Bill was born September 23, 1932, in Oronogo, MO, son of the late M.E. Allen and Mildred Scott Allen. He has been a lifelong resident of this area where he graduated from Alba High School, and then received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Kansas State Teacher's College, (now Pittsburg State University) in Pittsburg, KS. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Bill returned to Joplin, where he eventually began his career working for Leggett and Platt. He started working for them as a line worker, and after over 35 years, retired as vice president and risk manager in 1996.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Joplin, the Joplin Elks Lodge #501, and enjoyed playing golf at Briarbrook Country Club where he also served on the board of directors. He also spent a lot of time playing golf with family and friends at Lone Tree Golf Club in Chandler, AZ. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Terrie (Thompson) Allen; sons, William P. Allen and wife, Kim, of Tulsa, OK, David K. Allen and wife, Olene, of Loma Linda, MO, and Robert N. Allen and wife, Jill, of Fort Worth, TX; stepchildren, Daniel White and wife, Rhonda, of Nevada, MO, Stephanie Wright and husband, Dalton, of Conway, MO, David White and wife, Tracy, of Nevada, and Bradley White and wife, Becky, Carl Junction; numerous grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Illa Ewing, of Sterling, CO; several nieces and nephews.
Celebration of life will be Thursday, June 13, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Joplin, with Pastors Marsha West-Eichler, Bob Simon, and Russell Standlee officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. until service time on Thursday.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
The family request that memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church, in care of Parker Mortuary.
The family will conduct a memorial service in Chandler at a later date.
