Bill's Story

Bill E. Johnson, age 80, of Neosho, Mo., entered into rest on May 24, 2017 at Medicalodge, in Neosho, following a short illness. Bill was born July 29, 1936, in Neosho, the son of Charley and Sarah Jane 'Bessie' (Clark) Johnson.
He was a lifelong area resident and graduate of Neosho High School, class of 1954. He served in the Missouri National Guard and Army Reserves, 1954-1965. Bill worked at Pet Milk in production and retired in 1985 after 31 years. Following his retirement from Pet Milk, he worked at Joplin Building Materials until 1999. His passions included his family and supporting the St. Louis Cardinals. He was an avid sportsman; softball and tennis were among his best sports, winning two city championships in tennis.
Bill and Elsie Pearl Franklin were married on February 26, 1972, in Neosho, and she preceded him in death on October 20, 2014.
He is survived by three sons, Jerry Johnson and wife, Donna, of Pea Ridge, Ark., Jimmy Johnson, of Panama City, Fla., and Mark Johnson and wife, Kelly, of Joplin; two brothers, David Johnson and wife, Sharon, of Springfield, and Harold Johnson and wife, Sara, of Collinsville, Okla.; one sister, Barbara Rice, of Neosho; and four grandchildren, Elizabeth Ross and husband, T. J., of Winter Park, Fla., Ben Johnson, of Carlisle, Pa., Curtis Johnson, of Neosho, Preston Johnson, of Joplin; and two great- grandchildren, Riley Ross and Corbin Johnson.
Services will be Tuesday, May 30, at 11 a.m. at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Pastor Ken Robinson will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10 a.m. Following the services, the body will be taken for cremation. A private family graveside service will be held at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Bill may be made to the Joplin Humane Society, in care of Clark Funeral Home, PO Box 66; Neosho, MO 64850.
