David's Story

Text size

David Edwin Ray, age 64, formerly of Joplin, Mo., passed away April 18, 2017, at his home in St. James, Mo.
The son of Elmer Wayne and Barbara Ann (Bell) Ray, Joplin, David was an avid outdoors man. He loved to backpack, hike, fish and play with his grandchildren.
David was a 1972 graduate from Parkwood and received his B.S. from Missouri State University (SMSU) in Environmental Geology. He worked as an Environmental Health Specialist, based out of the Phelps County Health Department, before starting his own company, Earthworks Environmental Services in 1996. He stayed very active with his company designing and installing specialized onsite waste water systems.
Approximately seven years ago, Dave was diagnosed with leukemia. He was treated successfully at Barnes Hospital - St. Louis with a stem cell transplant. His leukemia was in remission by 2012. Unfortunately, secondary complications arose common in post stem cell transplants. Dave fought these complications the best he could and always kept a good attitude despite setbacks.
David was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Randy, of Joplin.
Survivors include three sons, Chris, Owasso, Okla., Ryan and wife, Mindy, Indianapolis, Ind., and Tyler and wife, Emily, St. James. His surviving brothers are Bill, Ron and Tom Ray and wife, Dana; and sisters, Dianne Daugherty and husband, Jerry, and Trilla Ray-Carter and husband, Monte. He was blessed with six grandchildren, Lauren, Lyric, Tatum, Maverick, Aubrey and Bailey.
All are welcome to join his family in remembering and celebrating his life on Sunday, April 30, from 2-5 p.m. at the Mining Days Event Center, 703 Dawson Drive, Webb City, MO 64870.
