Delmar Moore

Delmar Moore, 93, of Forsyth, MO, died April 15, 2019 at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. He was a World War II veteran and a hero in the eyes of his family who loved him dearly.
Delmar was born Friday, October 9, 1925, in Joplin, MO, to Jasper Delmar and Mary (Hathaway) Moore. He attended school in Picher, OK and later lived in Webb City, MO. During World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force and served as a tail gunner on B-17 missions. He was fortunate to return home, where he then raised a family with his former wife, Louise Moore (Daniel), and became the ultimate mechanic who could keep any engine running. He would later work for Yellow Freight where he retired from in 1993.
He was an intelligent, free thinker, who was well-read and fun to talk with and learn from. The best advice he ever gave was to be patient with your children and to live without regrets. Many would refer to him as strong willed, a family trait his grandchildren proudly inherited. He loved his family, had a passion for fast cars, enjoyed boating and fishing, and could build anything from wood.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Patsy Moore (Shivers), of Forsyth; three sons, Robert Moore (Jenny), of Alba, MO, Ricky Johnston, of Tishomingo, OK, and Robbie Johnston (Debbie), of Stringtown, OK; four daughters, Cherry Troxel (Richard), of Hendersonville, NC, Sandy Betebenner (Mitch), of Carl Junction, MO, Pamela Purdue (Roy), of Forsyth, and Patricia Finestead (Timothy), of Forsyth; his brother, Bill Moore, of Wichita, KS; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Carl Moore; and his former wife, Louise.
Interment, with military honors, will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 3, at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Springfield.
