Doris J. Hornbeak, age 86, of Joplin, Mo., passed away on Friday, October 6, 2017, at Mercy Hospital, in Joplin, following an illness.
Doris was born on May 25, 1931, in Tiptonville, Tenn., the daughter of the late Edgar and Leila (Payton) Thurman. She has been an area resident for many years. Doris worked as a banker for First National Bank of Joplin for many years, before retiring in 1992. Doris was an active member of Christ's Community United Methodist Church.
She married James "Jim" Hornbeak on August 27, 1954, he preceded her in death on August 8, 2016.
Doris was also preceded in death by her daughter, Vienda "Vee" Raney; three brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include son-in-law, Max Raney; two grandsons, Eric Raney and wife, Tina, of Pineville, Mo., Jeremy Raney and wife, Brandy, of Carthage, Mo.; five great-grandchildren,Abi Collins and husband, Ben, James Raney, Andrew Raney, Jesseca Raney and Lauren Raney; one great-great-grandchild, Haden Collins; sister-in-law, Doris Thurman; friends and companions, "Her Girls" Mary Gilstrap and Wilma Lawson; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Services have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 10, at the Christ's Community United Methodist Church, with Rev. Max Raney, Rev. Chris Sloan and Rev. Bob Dart, officiating. Burial will follow at the Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday evening at the Mason-Woodard Chapel.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
