Doris C. Hughes, age 97, passed away on October 23, 2017 at her daughter's home, in Broken Bow, Okla.
She was born on June 2, 1920, in Powell, Mo., to John and Gertrude Lawson. Doris graduated from Stella High School in 1937, and attended Joplin Junior College.
She married the love of her life, Argyle Hughes, on December 25, 1937. They had 68 years together.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Argyle Hughes, and son, Jack Hughes. Also a grandson; a granddaughter; two brothers, Guy and J. D. Lawson; and a sister, Letha Laird.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Pate and husband, Ronald, of Coffeyville, Kan., Doris Ann Stow and husband, Larry, of Broken Bow, Okla.; six grandchildren, Lisa Land and Denisa Simpson, of Webb City, Mo., Joe Hughes, of Stockton, Mo., Mark Pate, of Butler, Mo., Andrew Stow, of Missouri City, Texas, and Jay Stow, of Chandler, Ariz.; 11 greatgrandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, JoAnn Detherage, of Fairland, Okla.; two brothers-in-law, Floyd Hughes, of Wheaton, Mo., and Paul Hughes, of Neosho, Mo.
She loved her family and enjoyed serving the Lord and loving people.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 27, at 11 a.m. at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, in Webb City, with Rev. Jay Stow and Pastor Kyle Beverlin officiating. The family will be present for a visitation on Friday at the church from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions be made to the Emmanuel Baptist Church in her memory.
Services are under the direction of Simpson Funeral Home, in Webb City.
