Dorothy E. Nicholls, age 94, Joplin, Mo., went to join her husband, Roy, and beloved Taffy Tan, on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2018, at Spring River Christian Village.
Dorothy was born on Dec. 7, 1923, in Franklin Kan., the daughter of Garrett L. and J. Florence (Shell) Buckley. During World War II, she ground crystals for walkie talkies at Universal Television, in Kansas City, Mo., as part of the war effort. She worked in retail sales at Newman's, Kresge's and Howsmon's department stores. She was an active member of First Christian Church, Joplin.
She married Roy Nicholls on Dec. 8, 1945, in Kansas City, Kan. He preceded her in death on May 25, 1984.
Dorothy was also preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Lawrence, Maurice, Delmar and James Buckley; two sisters, Wilda Harding and Wilma Larson.
Survivors include one son, Roy Nicholls, of Joplin; two daughters, Elizabeth Sternes, of Joplin, Jeanne Mueller and husband, Cameron, of Joplin; five grandchildren, Hannah, Caitlin, Sarah and Megan Mueller, Garrett Sternes and wife, Pam; and three great-grandchildren, Kyle, Lauren and Nathan Sternes; plus several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, March 5, at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. Monday prior to the service. Burial will be at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family has requested contributions be given to the Joplin Humane Society, in care of the mortuary.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
