Edith M. Pemberton, 102, Carthage, MO., passed away Monday, Jan. 1, 2018, at St. Luke's Nursing Center, Carthage.
Edith Marie McGinnis was born Feb. 1, 1915, in Rich Hill, MO., to the late David Harve and Ester May McGinnis. She graduated from Rich Hill High School, Class of 1933.
Edith married Raymond Pemberton on Oct. 6, 1938, and moved to Carthage in 1943, where her husband was manager of Edmiston's Department Store; he preceded her in death on Feb. 3, 1987.
Edith worked as a department buyer and manager of children's wear at Ramsey's Department Store for 29 years, and assistant manager of the store for five years.
Mrs. Pemberton was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, serving as member and director of St. Margaret's Altar Guild, managing the Grace Church Book Store, and serving as a vestrywoman. Edith was also a member of Chapter HH PEO, Carthage Junior Tourists, McCune-Brooks Hospital Auxiliary and Soroptimist International of Carthage.
Survivors include one niece, Arloa McGinnis, Cheyenne, Wyo.; one great-niece, Tave Accardo, Ft. Collins, Colo.; nephews, David Chladek, Castle Rock, Colo., Jim Chladek, Casper, Wyo., and Mike McGinnis, Yuma, Ariz.; one great- nephew, Tad Herz, Denver, Colo.; and innumerable friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond; two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, January 6, at Grace Episcopal Church. Family will receive friends at the church following the interment. Fr. Steve Wilson and Fr. Ted Estes will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Park Cemetery, Carthage.
