Edwin Johnson

Edwin Otis Johnson, 89, of rural Joplin, MO, passed from this life at his home on July 24th, 2019 following a long illness. Edwin was born on January 3rd 1930 to the late Otis and Georgia Johnson.
On June 25th 1950 he married Lavonne Golden. She survives along with three children, Maria Lombard, of Duenweg, son, Richard Johnson, of the home, and son, David Johnson and wife, Sissy, of rural Joplin. One daughter, Charlotte Johnson Golden, preceded him in death. Additional survivors include sister, Erma Johnson, of Carthage; brother, Burney Johnson, of rural Diamond; nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and an innumerable host of extended family and friends. Sister, Delua Jeffers and brother, Buddy Johnson, also preceded him in death.
Edwin grew up dairying with his father and brothers at the Circle J Dairy, and continued into his married life. From there, he worked at Bunny Bread, operated a grade C milk route and retired after thirty-plus years as a meat cutter for several grocery stores in the Joplin area. After retirement he worked at Fisher Lumber, in Seneca, until the business closed.
In addition to the work listed above, he and his wife cared for the farm for 63 years and operated a custom meat processing plant on that farm for 37 years.
Edwin was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. He served the church as a deacon in the Beef Branch and Stapleton congregations, and served until his death as elder of the Stapleton congregation.
The family will host a potluck "get-together" as Edwin would call it, at the home, 6189 Beef Branch Road, Joplin MO 64804, on Saturday, July 27th, at 10 a.m.
The family would like to express our gratitude for the Integrity Hospice workers and volunteers who assisted in allowing us to grant his wish of passing at home.

There are two things I will always remember about Edwin. His love for music and his strength and determination. I know that today he is singing with the Angels in sweet harmony. He will be missed by all who knew him, I am so glad that I had the honor of having known him.
