Events

With love and appreciation for her life, we announce the death of Ella Orchard Thomas, Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at Freeman West Hospital, in Joplin, MO.
Ella was born on August 2, 1921, in Waterborough, New Brunswick, Canada. She was the daughter of the late A. Scott Orchard and Cora Mott Orchard.
Ella is survived by her nieces, Irene (Carl) Thorne, Barb Ekstrom (late Randy); nephew, Neil (Linda) Orchard; and many great-nieces and nephews, all of New Brunswick, Canada. Ella was the last surviving member of her family. In addition to her parents, Ella was pre-deceased by her son, Frederick; and his father, Eugene Thomas. Also sister, Marguerite Orchard Delahunt (Ed); brother, Ralph Orchard (Kay); niece, Carol Orchard Stuart (Dwight); and great-nephew, Peter Orchard.
Ella left home at age 16, in 1937, (without as much as a purse on her arm she always told us) to study hairdressing in Bangor, ME. After living many places in the USA with Eugene and their son Frederick, Ella settled in Webb City with the Thomas family. Ella worked many years at the clothing factory. After her retirement, she cared for many senior friends with love and compassion. Ella continued to visit her family in Canada until her eighties and they enjoyed frequent trips to Missouri.
Ella will be missed by her family, very close friend, Ottilie Hinderliter, and her family friend, Jonne Legg.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 26, at 11 a.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery, in Webb City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Association of American Veterans, PO Box 6865, Washington, DC 20020-0565, in her memory.
Services are under the direction of Simpson Funeral Home, in Webb City.
