Helen Marie "Dipper" Achey Schnake, 87, passed away Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018, at Mercy Hospital, in Joplin.
Helen was born Aug. 16, 1930, in Greenfield, Mo., to Delbert and Mollie "Shaffer" Dipper. She was a longtime resident of Carthage, attended Carthage High School and graduated with the class of 1949. Helen was a homemaker, an avid quilter and a member of the First Baptist Church, in Carthage.
Helen was united in marriage to John H. Achey Jr. Nov. 7, 1949, at the First Baptist Church in Carthage. He preceded her in death July 12, 1986.
Helen was then united in marriage to J.B. Schnake on March 14, 1998, at the First Baptist Church, in Carthage. He preceded her in death July 1, 2009.
Helen is survived by one son, Lynn Achey (Jeanne), of Sheldon, Mo.; two daughters, Glenda McDonald (Jim), of Lucas, Texas, and Donna Corder, of Little Rock, Ark.; one stepson, Jerald Schnake (Dea), of Carthage; one stepdaughter, Janice Greene (Brian), of Springfield, Mo.; 10 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, two brothers and two half-brothers.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at Ulmer Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Ulmer Funeral Home. Burial will be at Hackney Cemetery, northeast of Carthage.
