Helen Dean Rice
Helen was born February 19, 1938 in Columbus, KS. Her parents were Esther and Earl Dean. She graduated from Galena High School, where she was a Cheerleader, Twirler, and Sweetheart Queen. Helen held the Galena Days Queen Title in 1953.
Helen fiercely loved her kids and grand kids, as she made many personal sacrifices to educate, raise, and provide for them. Preceding her death were twin girls, Julie and Janie Rice. Surviving is one daughter, Caryn Rice Bennett, Fort Worth, TX; One son and daughter in law, Kevin and Sherry Rice, Fort Smith, AR; and two grand children Bradley Rice and Melanie Rice.
Helen lived in Fayetteville, AR for many years. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She worked in the banking industry for over 40 years. Her favorite position was at the First National Bank of Fayetteville, Dickson Street branch, where she provided a friendly home a way from home atmosphere to many college students from around the world. She loved and supported the Arkansas Razorback Athletic programs. Even with a full time job at the bank, Helen worked part time and weekends for Wal-Mart and SAM'S Club for over 25 years. She retired from SAM'S Club in Joplin, MO in 2006 and spent her retirement in Galena, KS.
Helen chose to have a private burial with immediate family and a few very dear friends she considered family at Hosey Hill Cemetery, Weir, KS. Helen was laid to rest next to her Mother and Grand Parents Grover Cleveland and Ora Elizabeth Smith.
