Jean Russell Griffin


Jean Russell Griffin was the second son of Frank Orville and Nina Margaret Griffin. He graduated from high school in Cleveland, OK, then married Katherine Butler and moved to Tulsa, OK, before entering the navy during World War II. He returned to Tulsa to join his wife and his first son, Jean Russell Griffin, Jr., second son, Timothy Leon Griffin, and daughter Deborah Ann Griffin. He worked in engineering and married Carol Gunlock on June 12, 1970. They traveled the world with his work until retiring in Joplin, MO. He was a great dancer and at one time had thought about it as a career. He was devoted to his family and church just ahead of his passion for entering contests and travel. He passed away in the hospital on October 10, 2018, at the age of 97. He was predeceased by his parents, brother, sister, first wife, second son, a grandson, nephew, and many other relatives and friends.

Jean is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carol; his children, Russell and Debby; stepsons, Douglas and David; stepdaughter, DeAnn; along with many grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren; many in-laws, and some outlaws, and lots of friends.

Memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, October 20, 2018, at 10:00 AM, First Christian Church, Miami, OK.
