Jerry's Story

Jerry Lee Adams, 79, of Oronogo, Mo., went to be with the Lord. He was born April 21, 1938, and passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2017. He was born to Riley and Elizabeth Adams, who preceded him in death. Jerry was raised in Nichols, Ga., the youngest of 12 children, nine of whom preceded him in death.
Jerry entered the Air Force at the age of 17, and served his country as an airplane mechanic, at Richard Gebuer Air Base, until he was honorably discharged due to illness.
He made Kansas City his home, marrying Barbara Pollock and fathering five children, two that preceded him in death at birth.
He worked several jobs, until later becoming a truck driver for 36 years. He loved to fish and hunt, until he no longer could do so, and enjoyed garage sales, flea markets and collecting knives and coins.
Jerry is a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Shari Lynne Adams, of the home; three children, Debrah Porter, of Kingston, Mo., Lisa Duddy and husband, Gary, of Smithville, Mo., Phillip Adams and Shelley, of Kansas City; a brother, Eugene Adams, of Centerville, Ga.,; and a sister, Marie Norton, of Webster, Fla. Jerry loved his five grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, as well as his numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and family 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 27, at First Assembly of God, 103 Gum Road, Carl Junction, Mo. Memorial service will follow at 10:30 a.m.
Flowers are to be sent to Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, in Joplin, Mo., or donations may be made to the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association and the Disabled American Veteran Association.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ozark Memorial Park Crematory, Joplin.
