Jim's Story

James R. "Jim" Ash, age 88, Joplin, Mo., passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2017, at Mercy of Joplin after a sudden illness.
Jim was born June 29, 1929, in Baxter Springs, Kan., son of the late Paul and Rosie Ash. He worked for Foremost, then Wonder Bread, MCI Telecommunications, and then began American Telephone, with which he was a partner until his retirement.
Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, and also enjoyed golfing throughout the years. He was a big fan of the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs, and the St. Louis Cardinals. Jim was also a long time active member of Central Christian Center where he was a Deacon, and also served on the greeting committee.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Shella Fanning Ash, who passed away on April 1, 1983. He then married Carolyn Kyger Ash and she preceded him in death on May 19, 2015.
He was preceded by a daughter, Dianne West; a sister, Dorothy Mullenix; and a grandson, Nathan Ash.
Survivors include his children, Pam Doke and husband, Gary, of Diamond, Mo., Rhonda Peacock, of Joplin, Doug Kyger, of Nashville, Tenn., Gregg Ash and wife, Karen, of Owasso, Okla., and Stacy Baggett of Webb City, Mo.; sister-in-law, Judy Moore, of Joplin; grandchildren, Stacey Hensley, Ashley Peacock, Alec Peacock, Darren Doke, Tiffany Miller, Joanna Degraw, Mitch Miller, Tommy West, Ryan West, Allen Ash; great-grandchildren, Kiley DuVall, Kolby Nace, and several other great-grandchildren; brothers, Don Ash, David Ash and wife, Sharon; sister, Dolores Lacy; several nieces and nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be Thursday, January 4, 2018, at 10 a.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Gary Shaw and Doug Wilkerson officiating. Interment will follow in Diamond Cemetery with Gary Doke, Alec Peacock, Kolby Nace, Darren Doke, Chase Wilscam, and Mike Walters serving as pallbearers. The family will visit with friends following the service at the funeral home.
