John E. Kelly, of Frisco, Texas, age 88, formerly of Joplin, Mo., passed away at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at Beehive Assisted Living facility in Frisco.
John was born July 8, 1929, in Commerce, Okla., the son of the late William and Frankie (Osborne) Kelly and had lived in the Joplin area most of his life. He was employed with F.A.G. Bearing Co. for 25 years, retiring in 1995. John served his country from 1951 to 1953 in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He attended Calvary Baptist Church. John enjoyed fishing, house remodeling and painting and was an avid woodworker.
John married Mattie Beard on January 14, 1951, in Columbus, Kan., and she preceded him in death on February 4, 2013.
Survivors include two daughters, Janice Dockum and her husband, Jim, of Goose Creek, S.C., Patricia Shelton, of Avondale, Ariz.; four grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, three step grandchildren, 11 step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by eight sisters and two brothers.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 30, at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. Burial will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the mortuary from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
The family has asked that contributions be given to the American Heart Association in care of the mortuary.
