June Weaver, age 83, of Baxter Springs, Kan., passed away at her son's home at 10:49 a.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2017.
June was born on May 17, 1934, in Cushing, Okla., to the union of F.A. "Speck" Osborne and Verda D. "Ozzie" (O'rourke) Osborne. Her father traveled for work, causing the family to move several times, but they settled in Baxter Springs when June was 13, and it's been "home" ever since. She graduated from Baxter Springs High School with the Class of 1952.
She worked as a Log Auditor for Sitton Motor Lines for 16 years, retiring in 2009. She had always enjoyed canning, gardening, and crocheting while she was able. She loved attending her grandkids' events such as plays, concerts, and ballgames. She was best known for never missing an opportunity to stop and chat with a friend.
June was preceded in death by her parents, Speck and Ozzie, and one daughter, Audrey Jean Kersey.
Survivors include one son, Bob Weaver (wife, Cassie) of Baxter Springs; one son-in-law, Robert Kersey; three grandchildren, Nikki Morrow (husband, Matt), Bryce Cullers (wife, Kayla), and Amber Marrett (husband, Korey); four great-grandchildren, Audrey, Madelyn, Brantley, and Brelynn; and a host of extended family members that she dearly loved.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 20, at First Christian Church of Baxter. Pastor Cody Graves will officiate. Visitation will take place on Sunday, November 19, from 4 to 5 p.m. at Derfelts Baxter Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans in care of the funeral home.
