Kelly Ann Wells

November 16, 1965 - January 22, 2019

Kelly Ann Wells Kelly Ann Wells, a life-long resident of Joplin, Mo., passed away unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at the age of 53.
Kelly was born on November 16, 1965 to James and Erika Wells. She graduated from Parkwood High School class of 1984. Kelly earned two Bachelor's Degrees in Education from Missouri Southern State University and impacted the lives of many students and staff members during her career as a middle school teacher. Kelly was a long-standing member of First Christian Church, in Joplin, where she was dedicated to the youth, chairing the Christian Education Committee and organizing vacation Bible school several times. She had a lifelong passion for reaching out to those who were not able to attend church and ministered to the homeless population.
Kelly will always be remembered for her love of her cats (Bearcat, Pea Pod, and Panda), Card Confetti, Stand Up comedy routines, celebrating and decorating for every holiday, dressing up and trick or treating with her mother every year, and bringing crafts for the children to the Wells family reunions. She was a practical joker and prankster, coordinated block parties for the neighborhood children on her visits to Broken Arrow, and took many road trips with her sister to visit her grandmother in Perry, Mo. She was passionate about the Card Ministry in the church and sent bulletins to those who no longer attended. She also delivered many of the children's messages. Kelly tried her hand at entrepreneurship (Bird Poop Protectors and Hamster Harnesses), and ran around with the neighborhood gang (Rhonda, Jayne, Kathy, Chris, Addie, and Rickie . . . and others that may not have been mentioned). She never met a stranger, was a free spirit, 'The Life of the Party', and had a kind heart. She also had a fierce love of her nephews and great niece. Over the past few years, Kelly faced several challenges and we take comfort that she is now resting in God's arms.
Kelly is survived by her parents, James and Erika Wells, of Joplin; her sister, Karen Redden and husband, Bill, of Broken Arrow, Okla.; nephews: Spencer Redden, Parker Redden and wife, Alisha; great niece, Laurel Bea Redden; and a host of uncles, aunts, and cousins.
The family will hold a celebration of Kelly's life at 1 p.m. Thursday, January 31st, at First Christian Church, in Joplin.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, in Joplin, or The Joplin Humane Society.

Kelly was a big part of my daughters' lives when she babysat them for several years back in the 90's. She would arrive with a big bag full of fun and games, and they were always excited when I told them Kelly was coming! Kelly had a huge heart. My condolences to all of you who loved her very much.

I have so many memories of and with Kelly. For years she was my best friend. We played Street Search, rode our bikes everywhere, snuck down to the railroad tracks, played endless board games, went to movies, had sleepovers, played kick the can on summer nights after dark. We had so much fun! Kelly was in the middle of it all, making us laugh! She was such a constant presence in our lives for so long! I can't believe she is gone. Kelly, look up Tracy and Kent in Heaven and have more adventures! My condolences to her family.

I'll forever treasure our memories together. Especially, our shared birthdays being just a day apart. We had the best parties every year. I will have a special candle on my cake from now on to represent you, my neighbors, birthday buddy, classmate, treasured friend, and our lifelong friendship.

Oh, the memories of so many fun days and nights with Kelly! Almost inseparable in high school, she was a constant friend and support. Weekends, hairstyles, sneaking out of class, taking my dad’s motorcycle into town with no helmets or license plates and dropping it at.a huge intersection laughing our heads off, sunbathing in her back yard, dreaming of boys, dancing, doing hair, getting more piercings, driving around drinking sodas for hours upon hours, staying up all night laughing, Saturday Night Live, Kids in the Hall, hanging out with Jenny Penny...I have loved you dearly, indeed! I am so sorry for your troubles and wish you everlasting gut-busting laughter and the peace you deserve. In... loving memory!! Thank you!Read more

Kelly was our neighbor for a few years after the tornado when she stayed at her parents. She was always so kind to our kids, bringing them gifts and toys. She loved on our puppies and fed them several treats over the years. She was a funny, quirky, one-of-a-kind, giving lady. Condolences to our past neighbors Jim, Ricky and family.

Never a dull moment in the presence of Kelly Wells. Her way of showing love was unique, fierce, and genuine. You knew where you stood with Kelly. She didn't mince words. I am honored to have had some great conversations with her. Her wit and humor just added icing to the cake. Heartache is eased knowing she is in the presence of our Lord, delighting heaven with a tale or two.
