Loren J. Hill, age 73, Joplin, Mo., passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at his home after a lengthy illness.
Loren was born March 7, 1944, in Blackwell, Okla., son of the late John S. Hill and Mildred L. Williams Hill. He grew up in Pryor, Okla., before moving to Joplin, where he graduated from Joplin High School.
He worked for Bruce Williams Lab a few years before beginning his own company, Lor-Mar Drilling, in 1972. He worked in several states throughout his career, and retired in 1993, moving to Florida. He was an avid bass angler, golfer, and enjoyed his time in Florida. He was always an entrepreneur at heart, and returned to Joplin in 2004, where he started several different business adventures. Loren was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church.
In addition his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sidney Ann Hill.
Survivors include his wife of over 50 years, Margie; son, John Hill, of Tulsa, Okla.; daughter, Lori Hill, of Joplin; grandchildren, Emily Taylor and husband, Grant, of Joplin, Cheyenne Hill, of Pierce City, Mo., Harley Hill, of Bristow, Okla., and Sydney Hill, of Joplin.
Graveside services will be Thursday, November 2, at 11 a.m. in Mount Hope Cemetery with Dr. Phillip McClendon officiating. The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m.
The family request that memorial contributions be made to the Parkinson Foundation.
