Lorene Louise Zaccarello, 94, of Columbus, Kan., died 7:45 p.m. Sunday, January 15, 2017, at the Medicalodge Nursing Home, in Columbus, following an illness.
Lorene was born October 11, 1922, in Turck, Kan., the daughter of Oscar and Louise (Cowsill) Scott. Lorene was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Columbus High School, in 1940.
On November 14, 1945, Lorene married Frank Zaccarello at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, in Scammon, Kan.; he preceded her in death on June 14, 2016.
During World War II Lorene worked at the Garment Factory, in Columbus, and later Doty's Grocery Store and McGee Drug Store, in Columbus.
Lorene was a member of the St. Rose Catholic Church, in Columbus, Ladies Auxiliary VFW, was a Pitt State football fan and Columbus Titans athletics supporter.
Survivors include her son, Mike Zaccarello and wife, Sandy, of Sapulpa, Okla.; grandchildren Cassie Gilman, Michelle Holdgrafer and Tammy Chambers; five great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Lorene was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and two sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 20, at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, in Columbus, with Fr. Jeremy Huser as celebrant. Burial will follow at the St. Bridget's Cemetery, in Scammon. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 19, at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, in Columbus; family will receive friends following the rosary. Public viewing will be after 12 p.m. Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Friends may drop off, or mail, memorials to Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, 611 South East Avenue, Columbus, KS6 6725.
