Maxine Short, age 97, of Joplin, Mo., passed away on October 28, 2017, at Joplin Gardens, peacefully in her sleep.
Maxine was born on July 5, 1920, near Seneca, Mo., the daughter of the late W.A. and Dora (Hesseltine) Douglas. She graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1938.
She married Raymond Short on July 6, 1941, in Joplin, and together they raised five sons.
She was a devoted wife and mother. She was a member of 1st Baptist Church, of Hinesville, Ark. She was an avid gardener and she enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.
Maxine is survived by three sons, Douglas Short, Rogers, Ark., Mike Short and wife, Diana, Joplin, and Roger Short and wife, Mary, Sarcoxie, Mo.; 16 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Short, in 2003; two sons, Scott Short, in 2011, and his wife, Vicky in 2002, and Ronald Short, in 2002; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Short, in 2013; two brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Rev. Bruce Allen will officiate. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Maxine's sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Wednesday at Mason-Woodard.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Gideons, in care of the mortuary.
