Michael Anthony Ortiz, 51, of Center, Mo., formerly of Joplin, Mo., passed away at 8:40 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017, at Westview Nursing Home, in Center.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home & Chapel, in Hannibal. A memorial service is being arranged by the family in Queens, N.Y., at a later date.
Michael was born on July 6, 1966, in Woodside, N.Y., the son of Anthony Colon and Elizabeth Ortiz.
Survivors include his mother, Elizabeth Ortiz, of Queens; partner, Angela K. Madison, of Joplin; three brothers, John Castellano, of Queens, Angel Huertas (Guadalupe), of Queens, and Reynaldo Huertas, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two sisters, Deborah Wegehoft (Kenneth), of Hannibal, Mo., and Maria Christina Rodriguez, of Queens. In addition to his father, Michael was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Francisca Ortiz.
Michael was an artist by trade. He enjoyed designing graffiti art and tattoos. He also enjoyed listening to music. Michael cherished the time spent with his friends and family. Mr. Oritz was a Christian by faith.
