Nancy's Story

Nancy Virginia Cummins, 77, of Olathe, Kan., passed away on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2018. She will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to everyone she met.
Nancy was born on Feb. 10, 1941, in Joplin, Mo., to Howard Stough and Anna Margaret (Kenney) Thomas. She attended and graduated from Baxter Springs (Kan.) High School. She earned her degree in Elementary Education through Pittsburg State University, in Pittsburg, Kan.
Nancy married the love of her life, James Leon Cummins, on Oct. 4th of 1968. Together, they raised their three children, David, Alison and Chris.
Nancy was an amazing gardener and seamstress. Her children remember her cooking the best "French Toast" and "Mashed Potatoes".  Nancy worked as an elementary school teacher . . .
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Margaret Thomas; her loving husband of 46 years, James Leon Cummins, who passed away in July of 2015.
Nancy is survived by her three children, David Cummins and his wife, Valerie Duff DO, of Lenexa, Kan., Alison Mairet and her husband, James, of Lenexa, and Chris Cummins and his wife, Genevieve, of Kansas City, Mo.; and one brother, James Thomas and his wife, Cathy Thomas, of Houston, Texas. Left behind to cherish her memory are her six grandchildren, Taylor Mairet, Hayden Mairet, Charlotte Cummins, Amelia Cummins, Grady Cummins and James Cummins. She will be sadly missed.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday morning, March 2nd, at the McGilley & Frye Funeral Home, 105 East Loula Street, Olathe, KS. Visitation Friday, 10-11 a.m., one hour prior to the funeral service, at the funeral home. Burial is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, March 3rd, in Baxter Springs Cemetery, Baxter Springs.
