Nedra Barnes

JOPLIN, MO - Nedra Jane Barnes, age 75, passed away at 1:58 p.m., Thursday, April 4, 2019, at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, following an illness.
Nedra was born June 21, 1943 in Treece, KS. Her parents were John Romus "Romie" and Esther L. (Bradbury) Flowers. She had lived in Joplin most of her life.
She was of the Baptist faith. She was a homemaker. Her interests included cooking, gardening, doll collecting, antique collecting and spending quality time with her family.
Nedra was married to Richard Arvel Barnes on Oct 19, 1962, in Treece. He preceded her in death on May 16, 2001.
Her parents and five brothers, Louis Flowers, Bill Flowers, Ron Flowers, Paul Flowers and David Flowers, also preceded her in death.
Surviving is one daughter, Lori A York (Mike), Joplin; one son, Richard "Russ" Barnes (Diane), Joplin; three brothers, Larry Flowers (Lou), Worcester, MA, John Flowers, Olathe, KS, and Del Flowers (Brenda), Chanute, KS; five grandchildren, Darrell Sour, Austin Barnes, Dakotah Simpson, Haley Simpson and Kammeron Barnes; and two great-grandchildren, Braylon Simpson and Liam Simpson; and many dear friends.
Nedra loved her family deeply and dearly enjoyed hosting family dinners at her home during the holidays as well as attending any family get-together when an opportunity presented itself. As the years have gone by and siblings and relations have passed, these times became evermore precious and important to her.
Anyone that knew her, was aware that she loved to cook and was always offering her culinary skills to any and all. Her home was always a place to gather and you were never turned away.
So many memories flood our minds of the Mom, Grandma, Sister, Aunt, Niece and friend we all loved. As we hold our memories of her deep in our hearts, she'd want us to remember some of her final words, "I want everyone to love each other, forgive each other and cherish each other".
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, April 12, at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs, KS. Pastor Brian Henderson will officiate.
