Patrick ("Pat") Steven Hughes, 47, Olathe, Kan., passed away July 24, 2017.
A memorial service will be held at Westside Family Church, Saturday, July 29, at 11 a.m., with a gathering to follow from 12 to 2 p.m.
Born in Fullerton, Calif., on March 7, 1970, Pat graduated from Webb City (Mo.) High School in 1988 and received his B.S in exercise science and an M.S in exercise physiology from the University of Kansas in 1996.
At KU, Pat met Melissa ("Missy") Lee Henson and they were married on April 5th, 1997, in Salina Kan. The couple have been loyal and active alumni of the University for decades, and their daughter, Maddy, will enroll at KU this fall.
Pat was the co-owner of Custom Specialties, headquartered in Overland Park, Kan., which employees over 20 people from the area and has clients across North America.
Pat is survived by his wife, Missy; his daughter, Maddy, and son, Max; his parents, Judy and Alan, of Webb City; his older brothers, Mark, Chris, Stuart, Brian; his sisters-in-law, Medha, Lisa, and Tammy; and his father-in-law, Dr. Robert Henson.
Pat loved being outside, whether on his patio at his fire pit, or fly-fishing a wild trout stream, or traveling to Sonoma for wine-tasting with friends, or sitting on the beach with family.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to the Pat Hughes Memorial Fund, which may be found at "www.youcaring.com/thehughesfamily-886262".
