Phillis Maxine Burks


Phillis "Maxine" Burks, 81, Baxter Springs, KS, passed away from this life on March 31, 2019 following an illness.
Maxine was born June 6, 1937 in Leota, MO, to the union of Tinker and Agness (Joice) Douglas. She married Floyd Burks on June 30, 1956 in West Plains, MO, where they lived for one year before moving to Baxter Springs. He preceded her in death in September 2016.
She retired from King Louie in Baxter Springs, after more than 20 years working as a seamstress and a supervisor. She loved old country music, yard sales, crocheting, going to the casinos, traveling, and watching western movies. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Baxter Springs.
In addition to her parents and husband, she preceded in death by one sister, Rosie Dye, one son, Richard Burks, and one daughter, Debbie Burks.
Survivors include two sisters, Lorene Copeland, of West Plains, MO, Barbara Brower, of Willow Springs, MO; one half-brother, Tommy Douglas, of Hot Springs, AR; one half-sister, Tammy DeVault, of Tulsa, OK; one son, Randall "Randy" Burks and wife, Teresa, of Baxter Springs, KS; six grandchildren, Justin Rago, Tracy Doubledee, Tonya Burks, Renee Burks, Sean Rago and Charles Rago, 15 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and family on Tuesday April 2, 2019 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel.
Services will be held Wednesday April 3, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs KS; burial will be at Lowell Cemetery, Lowell, KS.
