Raymond's Story

Raymond A. Rich Sr., 82, Neosho, Mo., passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2017. He was born April 20, 1935, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Raymond L. and Nellie Althea (Musick) Rich.
Raymond married the love of his life, Shirley McCale, on April 3, 1953, and they recently celebrated 64 years of marriage. Together they raised five children.
Raymond had a 22-year career in the Army serving in the Korean War and three tours in Vietnam. After retirement he served on the Kansas City Police Department, Chief of Police, in Plattsburg, Mo., and various other positions in law enforcement. He also became a licensed barber and opened and operated his own shop. Later in life, Raymond became a Pentecostal minister and served as state chaplin for the American Legion, and also served as an advocate for many disabled veterans.
He is survived by his children, Ray Rich Jr., Goodyear, Ariz., Rhonda Henson, Platte City, Mo., Joyce Minor, Dardeen Prairie, Mo., Yvette Frischmann and Dianna McCarter, both of Neosho, and their spouses; 13 grandchildren; 10 great- grandchildren; two great- great-grandchildren; sister, Linda McCale, Kansas City, Mo.; an aunt from California, Jean Hammer; and several brothers-in-law; as well as many nieces and nephews from extended family.
Services, with full military honors, will be held at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Muncie Road Entrance, Leavenworth, Kan., on August 7, at 1:30 p.m.
