Richard Lee Pliler, 71, went to be with his Lord and Savior, May 5, 2017, at his home in Quapaw, OK.

Richie was born June 14, 1945, on 4th Street in Quapaw, OK to Burt and Clarice (Lewis) Pliler. He grew up in the Baxter Springs, KS area, moved to the San Francisco, CA area; then moved back to Quapaw, OK to raise their family.

Richie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Quapaw, OK and after serving 20 years on the Quapaw Volunteer Fire Department, retired as 2nd Chief in Command. Richie retired from Jayhawk Fine Chemicals in 2007, and prior to their closing, Richie worked for BF Goodrich in Miami, OK and was a member of the BF Goodrich Fire Brigade Team.

Richie loved to hunt, fish and camp with his family and friends. But above all, Richie loved God, his family, and friends, and will be greatly missed by many. Richie's servant heart, his smile, and his wonderful words of wisdom touched and influenced the lives of many people throughout his lifetime.

Richie is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Frances Pliler, of the home; two daughters and their spouses, Tamara (Shawn) Essex, of Wyandotte, OK, Tressa (Buddy D.) Shapp, of Anchorage, AK; four grandchildren, Wade and wife, Mandi Shapp, of Princeton, TX, Zachary and wife, Hailey Essex, of Wyandotte, OK, Ty Essex of Wyandotte, OK, and Whitney Dayle Shapp, of Anchorage, AK.

Richie was preceded in death by his parents, Burt and Clarice Pliler, three brothers, Raymond "Bud" Pliler, Roy Pliler, Bobby Pliler, and one sister, Freda Crowell.

Those serving as pallbearers include John Jennings, Larry Teeter, Jeff Reeves, John W. Mate, J.D. Mate, and Jim Mate. Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren Wade Shapp, Zachary Essex, Ty Essex, Whitney Dayle Shapp, and men of the First Baptist Church of Quapaw.

The family will receive friends at Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami, OK, Monday May 8, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, at the First Baptist Church of Quapaw, with Pastor Matt Robertson and panel officiating. Interment will follow at GAR Cemetery in Miami, OK.
