Ruby's Story

Ruby Alice Nixon, 95, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Mercy Hospital, in Joplin.
Ruby was born March 21, 1922, in Gravette, Ark., to John Louis Lukens and Juda "Adams" Lukens. She was a long-time resident of the Carthage area and was a seamstress at Big Smith Manufacturing for 18 years.
Ruby was united in marriage to Clarence Jack Benefiel in July 1938; he passed away in March 1978. Ruby was then united in marriage to Virtle Carl Nixon on June 1, 1982, in Miami, Okla.; he preceded her in death in August 2004.
Ruby is survived by one daughter, Norma West, of Webb City; and two sons, Donald Benefiel and wife, Pauline, of Carthage, and Billy Joe Benefiel, of Flower Mound, Texas (wife Chris passed in 2015); as well as several grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Bobby Benefiel (wife Rosalie resides in St. Robert, Mo.); five brothers and three sisters.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 22, at Park Cemetery, in Carthage.
