Sue Coury, age 94, died on Friday, October 6, 2017, in Wichita, Kan. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.
Sue was born on July 19, 1923, to Joseph and Oyoun Chikhani Moufarrej, in Boxmaya, Batroun, Lebanon. She had six siblings: Mariam (deceased), Zeina, Isaac (deceased), Adele, Robert, and Elias.
She married Moses Coury on April 11, 1949, in Lebanon, and he brought her to the United States where she lived the next 68 years of her life at 605 N. Grand.
From this marriage came two daughters, Susan Rogers (Dennis) (Topeka, Kan.) and Mary Whiteside (Larry) (Wichita); three grandsons, Denny Rogers (Janell) (Granville, Ohio), Zachary Maze (Wichita) and Joshua Maze (Sara) (Wichita); and six great- grandchildren, Coury Rogers, Ella Rogers, Bauer Maze, Norah Maze, Isaac Maze and Quinn Maze. She was preceded in death by her husband, Moses; and her four step-children, Charles, Lilly, Tommy, and John.
A prayerful woman, Sue had strong faith and belief in God and Church. She was dedicated to her family and loved them with all her heart. She was most happy when everyone was in the kitchen talking and eating her wonderful food, that took her hours to prepare, or playing cards. She was a loving and caring friend and treated each as part of her family. Up until her illness in June, Sue loved to work in her garden which was filled with tomatoes, squash, green beans, okra, potatoes, corn, garlic, lettuce, grape vines, peppermint, parsley, and beautiful flowers. Sue's love for her Lebanese heritage was maintained through cooking, storytelling, and continued contact with relatives located throughout the world.
