Susan Ann Gilstrap, age 79, Joplin, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at her home after a lengthy illness.
Sue was born February 28, 1938, in Joplin, daughter of the late Floyd and Clarice DeWeese. She was a stay at home mom who dedicated herself to caring for her family until they were grown. Her greatest joy and most important job was raising and caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She lived for her family.
In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by a son, Floyd Williams; grandson, Nathan Williams; and a brother, Lee DeWeese.
She is survived by a her dedicated husband of 61 years, Gerald G. Gilstrap; son, Jerry Gilstrap; daughters, Debra Scroggs and husband, Craig, and Cheryl Miller and husband, Victor, all of Joplin; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; brother, Christopher DeWeese and wife, Susie, of Joplin; sisters, Elizabeth King and husband, George, and Patricia Merrick, all of Grove, Okla.; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Celebration of Susan's Life will be held on Thursday, December 21, at 12:30 p.m. in the Racine Apostolic Church. Private inurnment of her ashes will follow in Burkhart Cemetery in Racine, Mo.,
