Thelma's Story

Thelma Elizabeth Thiele, 88, of Columbus, Kan., died April 29, 2017 at Medicalodge, in Columbus. She was born October 9, 1928, in Hallowell, Kan., the daughter of Claire E. and Eva A. (Smith) Wofford.
Thelma was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church, of Columbus. She was very active in the Cherokee County 4-H Club for over 20 years. She was an adult leader and past president. She also was involved with the FCE and the Community Free Lunch Program. Thelma worked as a teacher's aide for many years and retired in 1994.
Survivors include three sons, Tom (Ann) Thiele, of Columbus, John (Karen) Thiele, of Joplin, Mo., Jim (Rebecca) Thiele, of Columbus; a brother, Walter Wofford, Topeka, Kan.; along with nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Thelma is preceded in death by her parents, Claire and Eva Wofford; husband, William Thiele, and brother, Carl Wofford.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 2, t the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, in Columbus, with Rev. Dale Powell officiating. Family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m., Monday evening.
