Virginia "Jean" Stumbaugh

February 12, 1924 - January 03, 2017

Virginia Jean Stumbaugh Virginia Jean Stumbaugh, 92, went home to be with the Lord at 6 p.m. on January 3, 2017 at Maple Wood Alzheimer's Care Center, in Springfield, Mo., after a long illness.
Jean was born February 12, 1924, in Dearing Kan., to Harry and Catherine McCormick. She graduated from Coffeyville High School in 1941.
Jean was united in marriage to Dean Stumbaugh on March 15, 1942. Together they raised three children: Steve Stumbaugh (Alona), of Topeka, Kan., Don Stumbaugh (Rose), of Eudora, Kan., and Jane (Mrs. Gary) Carden, of Battlefield, Mo.
She enjoyed three grandchildren: Chris-Anne (Mrs. Jeremy) Crabtree, of Springfield, Stephany Kuhlman, Topeka, and Tanner Dean Stumbaugh, Lawrence, Kan. Three precious great-grandchildren also survive her: Carson Crabtree, Cameron Crabtree, and Emma Kuhlman.
Jean and Dean lived about 55 years in Baxter Springs, Kan., before moving to Springfield in 2002. Jean was employed by Dr. L.C. Pickrell, Dr. Dale Askins, Dr. Elizabeth (Tudy) Conley and Dr. J.C. Eaton while in Baxter Springs. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, in Springfield.
Jean and Dean celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on March 15, 2012, in Springfield, with their entire family.
Her husband, Dean, preceded Jean in death in 2013; two brothers and three sisters also preceded her in death.
The family wishes to thank Maple Wood Alzheimer's Care Center, Culpepper Place Assisted Living in Chesterfield Village and Seasons Hospice for their loving care the past four years.
Jean's body has been entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home South for cremation. A family graveside service will be held at a later date.
