Wanda D. Howerton, 81, Carthage, Mo., passed away Monday evening, March 27, 2017, at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, Mo..
Wanda Darlene Moore was born October 4, 1935, in Pennsboro, Mo., to the late Wherry Moore and Leona Francis (Poe) Moore. She graduated from Greenfield High School, Class of 1953. Wanda retired from Fred's Frozen Foods in Carthage after 33 years of service.
She married Keith W. Howerton on October 4, 1968, in Bentonville, Ark; he preceded her in death.
Wanda was a member of the Covenant World Outreach Church, Carthage.
Survivors include three sons, David Dean Sexton (wife, Michele), Carthage, Danny Alan Sexton (wife, Kendra), Carthage, and Davin Ray Sexton, Carthage; one daughter, Darla Kay Hasty (husband, Patrick), Jacksonville, Fla.; one brother, David James Moore, Clinton, Mo.; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Debra Sue McNary, and five brothers, John Moore, Ralph Moore, Roy Moore, Marion Moore, and Billy Moore, and her beloved dog, Scruffy.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 31, at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Memorial services will follow the visitation at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Steve Wilson will officiate. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
