Wayne's Story

Wayne J. Thomas, 97, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 14, 2017, in Carthage, Mo.
He was born June 28, 1920, in rural Jasper County to Charles Thomas and Edna Thomas, Née Ballard.
Wayne retired from Firestone Auto Tire Service and then worked at Carthage True Value until he was 95 years old. He served in the Navy during World War II as a Fireman 1st Class and was a life member of Jasper V.F.W. Post #6415. Wayne was a deacon of First Baptist Church in Carthage.
Wayne was united in marriage to Freda F. Thomas, Née Grieb on May 11, 1946.
Freda survives along with their four children, Edward L. Thomas and wife, Frances, of Carthage, Susan K. Thomas, of Oronogo, Mo., Jeannette F. Thomas, of Joplin, Mo., and Thomas W. Thomas and wife, Tonna, of Joplin. Wayne is also survived by eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald Thomas and Norman Thomas.
Wayne was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather that will live on in cherished memories.
Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church in Carthage on December 21st at 1 p.m. followed by funeral services at 2 p.m.
