William Lewis William Robert Lewis Sr., was born June 17, 1929, in Carroll, Neb., to Elwood and Grace (Darnell) Lewis. He passed away Feb. 28, 2019.
He married Mary Sater of Seymour, Mo., June 5, 1948, in Mountain Home, Ark.
From Seymour, they moved to Kansas City, being employed by Ingersoll Rand, then Victor L. Phillips. Moving to Lawson, he worked at Westfall GMC where he became number one in the nation in truck sales. In 1974, he moved to the Joplin area to become branch manager of Victor L. Phillips. He later opened Lewis Truck & Tractor, in Joplin. During his career he was purchasing agent for Goodbary Engineering, which designed and produced the world's largest mining trucks.
Upon retirement, they purchased Hickory Creek Plaza, in Neosho, where he and Mary enjoyed buying, selling, and trading collectibles and antiques.
Loving music, he played piano, accordion, fiddle, guitar and harmonica. Active in his community, he pastored many years at Neosho Community of Christ.
Preceded by his wife; parents; nephew, whom he raised, Kurt Parsons; siblings, Lila Slover, Hayden Jones, Thelma Massey, Luetta Parsons, Ellis Lewis, Thomas Lewis, Rita Goss.
Survived by children, Christy Barron (Tom), Rayville, Julita Harris (Eddie), St. Joseph, Sam Lewis, Joplin, Sandy Hamann (Dwight), St. Joseph, Bill Lewis Jr. (Gale), Neosho; daughter-in-law, Susie Parsons Brane, Wichita; sisters- in-law, Viola Nichols (Bruce) and Lorraine Sater; 19 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, March 16, Ridgewood Chapel Community of Christ, 1794 Ridgewood Road, Neosho, MO.
