William A. (Bill) Peaslee, 95, Topeka, Kan., passed Monday, April 9, 2018 at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook, Kan.
He was born April 7, 1923, in Parsons, Kan., to Leo L. and Hazel (Archer) Peaslee. He graduated from Parsons High School and Labette County Community College. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1948 and his Masters of Science degree in 1951, both from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, Kan. He was initiated into Phi Delta Kappa, an honorary education fraternity at Pittsburg State University. He was a lifetime member of Pittsburg State University Alumni Association.
While in high school, he began apprenticeship as an electrician under the auspices of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) becoming a journeyman electrician, he worked in the construction industry in various locations throughout the country including the atomic energy fusion plant at Paducah, Ky.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army and as a Draftsman in the engineering department of the Kansas Army Ordinance plant. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Topeka, Kansas, and served on the Board of Deacons as President, Treasurer, and Chairman of Transportation. He taught high school in Radium and Altoona, Kan.
Bill began his State of Kansas employment career in 1955 for the Employment Security Division (Division of Human Resources) as an Employment Interviewer and advanced to the position of Director of Occupational Testing and Analysis. In 1961, he transferred to the Department of Administration, Division of Purchases as a State Contracting Officer ending his State service as a State Contracting Officer IV, supervising other purchasing officers. He was professionally certified by the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (NIGP) as a Certified Public Purchasing Officer (CPPO), retiring with lifetime status on that level. He also held a Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB) title. He was a member of the Kansas Association for Public Purchasing Professionals (KAPPP), Mid-America Council of Public Purchasing (MACPP), and the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (NIGP). He retired from the State of Kansas after more than 36 years of service.
He was a lifetime member of Lodge No. 117 AF&AM; Chapter No. 39; Commandery No. 17; and Order of Eastern Star No. 49, all of Parsons. He also held a lifetime membership in the Arab Shrine and Scottish Rite, both of Topeka. As a youth, he was a member of the Order of DeMolay serving as Master Counselor. The Order of DeMolay vested him with the Degree of Chevalier in 1941.
He married Grace Holmes in 1955, in Parsons. She passed away in 1968 of cancer.
He married Beverly Bardsley in 1972, in Topeka. She survives at their home.
Other survivors include one son, Noel L. Peaslee, Monee, Ill.; and one daughter, Sherri Swank, Plano, Texas; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sons, Perry King and David H. Peaslee.
Mr. Peaslee was cremated with inurnment at West Lawn Memorial Gardens, Topeka.
