Dorothy Alberta Ramsey, 96, of Overland Park, Kan., died at 7:25 p.m., Monday, July 10, 2017, at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center, in Overland Park.
She was born June 18, 1921, at Chetopa, to Samuel and Elizabeth (Hantz) Sprouse.
She grew up there and was married there to Ralph Rolland Ramsey on November 1, 1939. Through their years of marriage they had lived in Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Colorado. Ralph preceded her in death on March 1, 1986.
Dorothy was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church and had completed a college education. She had worked many jobs to help support her family and for many years was a volunteer rider coordinator for the OATS program of southwest Missouri.
Survivors include three children, Shirley K. Blocher and husband, Otis, of Ellsinore, Mo., Carolyn S. Adams and husband, Robert, of rural Parsons, and Ralph Ramsey Jr. and wife, Becky, of Broomfield, Colo. Other survivors include nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great-grandchildren and a sister, Dora Battin, of Nowata, Okla. Preceding her in death, besides her husband, is an infant daughter, Garnett Sue, who died early in their marriage; a son, William Joe; and a granddaughter, Carolyn Gaylen Gordon.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, at St. John's Episcopal Church, in Parsons, with Mother Sharon Billman officiating. Burial will be in Oakhill Cemetery, in Chetopa. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m, Saturday.
The Carson-Wall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements and friends may call there throughout the day Friday.
