Doug Hass, 58, a loving husband, father, papa, friend, upholsterer, and resident of Joplin, Mo., died unexpectedly from a cardiac episode on Tuesday, September 19, 2017. He was born in Stoughton, Wis., on April 27, 1959, to Ruth Moran and Donald Hass.
Doug is survived by his father; wife, Naomi Hass; his seven children and their spouses; eight grandchildren; his seven siblings; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
On August 2, 1981, he married Naomi Moreland. The couple's pride and joy was their large, loving family: Tracy, Jesse, Zoe, and Annabelle Cordova (Arkansas); Amy, Kevin, Kaylee, Madelynn Duncan (Kansas); Kari, Tim, Emma, Allie, Aubrey, Tristan Hudson (Webb City); Philip Hass and Kristin Kellerman (Joplin); Emily and Chance Logston (Oklahoma); Shelby and Danny Drouin (St.Charles); and Alan Hass (Joplin). The family gathered recently in Gulf Shores for the marriage of Shelby and Danny.
Doug enjoyed spending time with the family around the campfire, feeding his grandchildren copious amounts of candy, having Saturday breakfast with his wife, and opening his home to literally anyone in need. He was a talented upholsterer that brought beauty to numerous homes in the Joplin area. He was a spiritual man who epitomized the command to "love thy neighbor". His contagious laugh and compassionate spirit will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him. Doug once wrote, "All I ever wanted was a loving family and to be the best dad I could be. I am content. God could not have done any better."
A celebration of life service is scheduled for Tuesday, September 26, from 6-7 p.m. at Villa Heights Christian Church, in Joplin. Nephew, Pastor Jared Kouba, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered to the family to assist with hospital and cremation costs.
