BAXTER SPRINGS, Kan. - Florene was born on October 11, 1930, in Galena, Kan. She was the daughter of Mark and Bernice Hessee and had two brothers, Mark Jr. and Bill.
As a child, she spent time in Baxter Springs and Reno, Nev., and graduated from Baxter Springs High School.
She and A.J. Easley were high school sweethearts and she married A.J. on August 25, 1949, in Branson, Mo. Their son, Harold, was born in Baxter Springs.
Florene and A.J. moved to Texas where A.J. and his partners formed a construction company specializing in acoustical ceiling and drywall installation. During the next 20 years, A.J. traveled much of the time while Florene and Harold stayed in Texas.
She and A.J. traveled to China, Japan, and Switzerland. She also went to Alaska to visit her brother and on a missionary trip to Costa Rica. However, her favorite times were coming back to Baxter Springs to visit her parents, A.J.'s mother, and other family and friends.
In the late '70s, Florene and A.J. moved to Kansas City where A.J. formed another construction company. Florene worked for Avon Products Inc., in their Kansas City office. Florene and A.J. lived in Kansas City for 19 years.
In the early '90s, A.J. and Florene moved back to Joplin to once again be closer to their family. They joined the Carthage Nazarene Church where they were members for over a decade.
Florene was always proud of her son's accomplishments, but her greatest joy was in her two grandsons, Sean and Anson Easley who were born in the '70s. They now reside in Beaumont, Texas.
Several years after A.J.'s death, Florene met Sid Shouse and began another happy marriage. They were married in 2008, and celebrated with a cruise to Alaska. They attended the Joplin Faith Assembly of God. They both had family and friends in Joplin and they enjoyed many holiday activities with Sid's sons, David, Mark, Mike, and Kevin Shouse.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, April 24, at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel. Pastor Dave Robinson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Baxter Springs Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Monday from 1 p.m., until service time.
Memorial donations may be made to Faith Assembly Kids and mailed to Faith Assembly, 7211 East 32nd Street, Joplin, MO 64804, or dropped off at the funeral home.
