George Edwin Shaner, 88, passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Quaker Hill Skilled Nursing in Baxter Springs, Kan.
George was born on October 21, 1928, in Kingfisher, Okla. He was raised on the family farm in Kingfisher. He completed aeronautical training at Spartan Aeronautical College and went on to fly professionally. He graduated from high school and served as a Marine in Guam.
On December 31, 1955, he married Patricia Ann Terry in Sheridan, Wyo. They lived in Nevada and Arizona before moving to Missouri in 1979. They have resided in Pierce City, Mo., where they raised a large family.
George will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his keen insights and intelligence, and his unfailing kindness. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and spent his life serving others and trying to emulate the example of Jesus Christ.
George is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia; his children, Steve, Chris, Erich, James, and Michael Shaner, Bobbi Sherwood, Melissa Woodworth, Terri Shaner, Tanya Shaner, Sharyn Hendrix, Krystal Atwood, and Tica Shaner. He has 56 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harold and Marvin; his son, David; daughter, Nicole; and three grandchildren.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, October 7, at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Monett, Mo. There will be a visitation at Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City, Mo., Friday, October 6, from 7 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Spring River Cemetery in Verona, Mo., with Military Honors.
