Jalene E. Howerton, 65, Carthage, Mo., passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Freeman Hospital West, Joplin, Mo.
Jalene Ellen Mitchell was born September 8, 1951, in Moran, Kan., to James E. Mitchell and Kathryn (Balyard) Mitchell. She attended school in Moran.
Jalene married Ron Howerton on October 1, 1971, in Carthage. He survives.
She worked as a supervisor at Justin Boot for over 20 years.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Melissa Ellen Harris (husband, Kevin), Carthage, Rhonda Jean Wilhelm (husband, John), Sheldon, Mo., and Christina Lynn McDaniel, Mt. Juliet, Tenn.; three brothers, Jim Mitchell (wife, Diana), Noel, Mo., Ed Mitchell (wife, Sharon), Shell Knob, Mo., and Johnny Mitchell (wife, Lisa), Diamond, Mo.; one sister, Darlene Garroutte (husband, Von), Diamond; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Sherry Spilman.
Visitation will be held 6-7 p.m., Thursday, July 13, at Knell Mortuary. Private family services will be held at a later date.
