James Gregory "Gregg" Martin, 59, of Scammon, Kan., passed away Sunday, April 2nd, 2017, in Joplin, Mo.
He was born March 11, 1958, in Pittsburg, Kan., to Leo and Anna Marie (O'Malley) Martin.
Gregg graduated from Southeast High School in 1976. He married Linda Holloway on October 8, 1993.
He was a graduate of the Pittsburg State University Welding Technology program and worked as a welder at Eagle Picher for over 35 years. He enjoyed farming and raising cattle and poultry on the family farm. He was a proud recipient of the Farm Bureau Century Farm award in 2006. Gregg was a member of the St Bridget's Knights of Columbus, where he previously served as a Grand Knight. He served in the Missouri National Guard and was a member of the American Shorthorn Society and American Legion.
Gregg enjoyed traveling with Linda, spending time with his grandkids, teasing family and friends, farming, history and all his animals. He was a hard-working, giving man and will be missed by many.
Gregg is survived by his wife, Linda, of the home; his daughter, Jesica (Mark) Workman, DVM, of Rockwall, Texas; son, Chris (Cory) Martin, Weir, Kan.; stepson, Keith (Courtney) Holloway, of Neosho, Mo.; and his grandchildren, Gabe and Gunner Martin, "Hank" Workman and Stella and Beckett Holloway; his brother, Jeff (Betty) Martin, of Scammon; his sisters, Becky (Rich) Medved, Olathe, Kan., and Regina (Darrell) Peak, Scammon. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 6th, at the St Bridget's Catholic Church, in Scammon. Burial will follow in the St. Bridget's Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday evening with a rosary to begin at 7:30 p.m. Friends and family are welcome to visit following the rosary.
