JoAnne Brewer Walker, 83, departed this life after a long fight against Parkinson's disease and entered her heavenly home on Friday, April 14, 2017, with her loving husband, Rex, waiting for her with open arms. JoAnne was born December 30, 1933, in Granby, Mo., the daughter of Theron Ellis Brewer and Evelyn Jennie (Carroll) Brewer
JoAnne was first and foremost a child of Christ. The Lord blessed her with many gifts. JoAnne was extremely intelligent, valedictorian of her class, played the piano and clarinet, had a beautiful voice, painted gorgeous landscapes and stills, was a skilled artist, and loved gardening, canning, and baking. She instilled in her children the importance of family traditions and passed many of those traditions down through the years.
JoAnne was a loving wife to her husband of 64 years, Rex Howard Walker, a loving mother to her children Bill, Kelly, Rusty, and Jana, and a proud grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved seeing her grandchildren and enjoyed their hugs and kisses even on her last day.
JoAnne graduated from what is now Missouri State University with an education degree. She was an active member of Delta Sigma Epsilon.
While attending college she met the love of her life Rex, and they were married on May 30th 1953 in Granby.
JoAnne later obtained a master's degree in education from Missouri State and taught at Pleasant View and Pipkin schools before taking time away to be a homemaker. She later worked as an administrative assistant at McBee Binders then retired with Rex in their lovely log home overlooking Table Rock Lake.
Her hobbies included reading, gardening, baking, singing in the choir at South Street Christian Church, watching Magnum P.I., and taking care of her grand kids, all of whom have loving memories of time with grandma.
Preceded in death by her husband, Rex Howard Walker; father Theron; mother Evelyn; brother Richard; and brother-in-law John Ed, JoAnne is survived by her loving family, three sons: William Rex Walker and wife, Dolores, Kelly Jo Walker and wife, Nancy, all of Springfield, Mo., Russell John Walker and wife, Shona, of Nixa, Mo.; one daughter, Jana Sue Wilson and husband, John, of Aurora, Mo.; grandchildren: Sean Walker and wife, Katrina. of Pasco, Wash., Kelsey Drochelman and husband, John, of St. Louis, Mo., Kaylor Walker and wife, Meaghan, of Springfield, Ashley Call and husband, Donald, of Reeds Spring, Mo., Alexander Walker, of Nixa, Livee Bellah and husband, Billy, of Miller, Mo., Ethan Wilson and wife, Morgan, of Kansas City, Mo.; great-grandchildren: Devin Walker, Karter Walker, Bry Drochelman, Mikelynn Call, Cayden Call, Darian Sparkman, Nolan Sparkman, and Logan Sparkman; one sister, Betty Mae Atkinson; bother-in-law, Bill Virgil Walker and wife, Jo; and many loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, with a memorial service beginning at 11 a.m. at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. in Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cedar Ridge Baptist Church, 742 Buttermilk Springs Road, Galena, MO 65656.
