Laurel Gaut, 86, longtime resident of Joplin, Mo., passed away Saturday, February 11, 2017, from cancer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Gaut, of Diamond, Mo., and youngest daughter, Suzanne Steele Petry, of Castle Rock, Colo.
She is survived by two daughters, Randi Bass, of LaCentre, Wash., and Cindy Spratlen, of Roxborough, Colo. She has six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Laurel was a constant volunteer, wherever she lived. For the past eight years, she volunteered at Mercy Hospital in Joplin several days per week. She loved baking cakes and cookies for all the hardworking doctors and nurses. She also adopted many fire stations over the years, bringing her sweet treats and a warm smile. Her greatest joy was baking for others. She never knew a stranger and will always be remembered for her sense of humor and her giving nature. This was in tact right up till the very end.
She passed away at home in Colorado with her family by her side. She will be greatly missed.
