Melvin Kenneth Thurston expired this Earth to be with his Savior on January 31, 2017.
He was born June 13, 1930, in Goodman, Mo., to Joseph & Marie (Friend) Thurston. He was one of twelve children.
He joined the Marine Corp at a young age and was honorably discharged. He enjoyed the sport of boxing and during his tenure with the Corp, he progressed to a Golden Glove Champion. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be missed dearly.
He loved the outdoors and enjoyed playing his guitar and harmonica to get anyone to smile. He was a member of the Church of Hope in Neosho, Mo.
In 1950, he married Ruby Sanders as his lifelong friend and companion.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Ruby, sons, Steven and Melvin Glen Thurston.
Survivors include daughter, Thelma Allen and husband, David, of Neosho; and son, Ken Thurston and wife, Carol, of Joplin, Mo.; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Per his wishes, Melvin was taken for cremation and Celebration of Life services will be at a later date.
