Peggy Jean Watkins, 84, of Baxter Springs, Kan., passed from this life on Thursday, March 30, 2017, at Freeman Hospital, Joplin, Mo.
Peggy was born on July 21, 1932, in Baxter Springs to the union of Oliver and Blanche (Hilligos) Gilmore.
Peggy graduated from Baxter Springs High School and was united in marriage to Albert Lloyd Watkins, Sr., on August 20, 1950, in Baxter Springs.
Peggy worked at the former Baxter Springs Memorial Hospital and then worked at the former St. John's Regional Medical Center until she retired in 1998. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, especially their trips to California, Reno and Las Vegas, Nev. She loved time spent with family and loved watching her grandkids and great-grandkids sports and activities.
Peggy is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Dennis Parker; grandson, Travis Watkins; and grandson-in-law, Jamey Richardson Sr.
Survivors include one son, Albert Watkins, Jr., and wife, Mary, of Baxter Springs; two daughters, Kathy Parker, of Baxter Springs, and Janis Edwards and husband, Tom, of Baxter Springs; two sisters, Donna Allison, of Baxter Springs, and Opal Harding, of Blue Springs, Mo.; two brothers, Charles Gilmore, of Baxter Springs, and Jack Gilmore, of Muskogee, Okla.; six grandchildren, Tommy Edwards and wife, Heather, Nick Edwards, Jennifer Edwards, Alie Watkins and wife, Shannon, Dink Parker, and Dustin Parker; ten great-grandchildren, Courtney Mallory and husband, Cory, Logan Edwards, Shelby Edwards, Jamey Richardson, Jr., Terryk Richardson, Blake Watkins, Kerrington Watkins, Ashton Cramer, Samuel Becket, and Sadee Parker; one great-great grandchild, Cale Goodman.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 3, at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel. Pastor Wes Davis will officiate. Burial will follow in the Baxter Springs Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Quaker Hill Nursing Home (Activity Fund) in care of the funeral home.
Pallbearers for the service are Alie Watkins, Tommy Edwards, Nick Edwards, Dustin Parker, Dennis Parker II, and Logan Edwards. Honorary pallbearers are Jamey Richardson, Jr., Terryk Richardson, Ashton Cramer, Blake Watkins, and Samuel Becket.
